2014 Watermedia Showcase
I was so honored to find out I had received an Honorable Mention in this year’s Watermedia Showcase competition. After receiving my April, 2014 issue of Watercolor Artist Magazine yesterday, I was even more pleased when I saw this year’s winning entries. I am so happy to be included with these wonderful artists. This competition takes place once a year through the Artists Network web site and is sponsored by F & W Media.
Self Portrait Finished – You look familiar!
This is one that I can take off my list. I’ve been wanting to complete a self-portrait for a long time. Finished today, it now is in the 2 week long screening process to see if I want to make changes. I probably won’t be entering this in any exhibition. This is just for my daughter to have someday. All comments/suggestions are welcome.
Most Ambitious
I have completed my most ambitious work so far. This piece is 40″ high by 27″ wide. The background was poured and manipulated without a backing board. This was interesting. Luckily my studio is ideal for making a big mess!
It’s Winter but It’s Spring
January brings about the time to start entering the Spring exhibitions around the country. To my artist friends, remember to photograph your work carefully, crop to show ONLY the image, no computer generated alterations to the original look of the work and READ, READ, READ your prospectus. They can be tedious, a lot of the language is similar from organization to organization, but one small detail, like if the work has to be listed for sale or not, can be problematic if you enter a work that is already sold or is a work you do not want to sell. This can be heartbreaking if your work is accepted and you have to withdraw it just because you missed one small sentence in the prospectus. I am excited to see the challenge results of fellow artists to my article for Watercolor Artist magazine. I have received a few emails from artists who are giving it a try and have seen some of their work. Really outstanding images. Good Luck to everyone who plans to enter their work in exhibitions this year. Remember, no one can see your work if you aren’t putting it out there. Whenever we share our vision, good things happen! Keep your brushes wet.
Watercolor Artist magazine
The new Watercolor Artist magazine came over the weekend. I have an article in this February issue, (see page 5). For those who do not subscribe you can view the article here. I was so excited when I was asked to write this earlier this year. I thank Kelly Kane, Editor and the staff at Watercolor Artist for this great opportunity.
Annual Christmas Art Fair
This Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7 at the Randolph County Community Arts Center in Elkins, WV, come do some shopping to support local artists. I hope to see you all there.
Family Night
My daughter, Jessika, and her boyfriend, Stan, are visiting from Illinois and our son, Sky, and his girlfriend, Sabrina, are coming by tonight and we are having a scrumptious family dinner, shrimp and grits. Time to get creative in the kitchen.

Morgantown Workshop
Got back last night from Morgantown. We had a great workshop. The Morgantown Art Association is a great group of talented artists. Their gallery and workshop space in the Mountaineer Mall is beautiful. I want to thank the MAA and the members and newcomers who attended. YOU ALL DID A GREAT JOB!
